Amazing review from a fan on Amazon.co.uk

26 january 2009 16:39

Sometimes you come across a review of which you have the feeling it says it all. The review Peter Parker-Penn wrote on Amazon.co.uk is one of those: "It's a shame that the best downtempo release of 2008 seems to have been left behind in the pre-Christmas cd-buying rush. Described by the band as "a blend of classical music, world, pop and ambient", 'Mariposa' is a masterpiece which deserves a wider audience: If you're a fan of artists such as Air or Moby (his ambient piano pieces), or the work of Craig Armstrong you'll love this album. The term 'cinematic' is perhaps overused in relation to downtempo music, but listen to the lush orchestration on tracks such as 'Kosovo' or 'Seneca', and you'll soon find imaginary movies playing in your head. If you buy this cd you're frankly in a win/win situation: on the one hand, if it remains undiscovered, you'll be the proud owner of one of the hidden gems of 2008. And if the album does start to get the attention it deserves (once the makers of 'Property Ladder' style lifestyle programmes discover the track 'Mio Dolore' I expect it to become as ubiquitous as Lemon Jelly's 'In The Bath'), you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you were 'in' on Bardo State before anyone else"
